Building Healthier Communities in Arizona: WMED and Del Sol Research

White Mountain Economic Development (WMED) is continuing to build meaningful partnerships that bring tangible benefits to communities across Arizona—and its growing collaboration with Del Sol Research Management is already taking shape in impactful ways.

A recent Health Fair in partnership with the City of Show Low marked the first major step in this relationship. The event itself showcased a wide range of community resources, and Del Sol’s participation stood out as a clear example of how this partnership can expand access to innovative, preventative healthcare in the White Mountains region.

“Partnerships like this are exactly what we strive to build at WMED—connections that directly improve quality of life for rural residents,” said Russ Yelton, WMED Executive Director. “Del Sol Research is bringing advanced tools and services into our communities in a way that is accessible, practical, and impactful to augment what our other local healthcare partners are already doing. This is just the beginning of what we can accomplish together.”

At the center of Del Sol’s offering is FibroScan®, a quick, painless, and non-invasive ultrasound-based screening that assesses liver health in just minutes. With no needles, no sedation, and no downtime, the technology provides an accessible entry point for individuals who may not otherwise seek out or prioritize this type of screening. By bringing FibroScan directly into the community setting, Del Sol helps remove barriers and encourages proactive health awareness.

But their approach extends beyond a single service. Del Sol’s free wellness program offers a comprehensive snapshot of an individual’s health, including vital signs, EKG, glucose, hemoglobin A1C, urinalysis, cholesterol levels, and FibroScan screening. This holistic approach empowers participants with information—at no cost—so they can better understand their health and take the next steps if needed. It also drives the advancement of medical science through research and the development of new technologies and future therapies.

Equally important is Del Sol’s work with local employers. Through workplace partnerships, they deliver on-site or scheduled screenings that fit within the flow of the workday, helping businesses promote a culture of wellness without disrupting operations. These efforts not only support individual employees but also contribute to a healthier community and a more resilient workforce across the region.

Wendy Hotz, R.Ph, President and CEO of Del Sol Research Management and Maria Gallegos, Vice President of Del Sol Research Management and her team are deeply passionate about this important work.

“In collaboration with WMED and partners across Arizona, we are honored to help raise health awareness in our local communities while advancing scientific research in ways that we hope will benefit both current and future generations.”

Clinical trials also represent a core part of Del Sol’s work and community benefit. By participating in clinical studies, individuals may gain access to emerging treatments and care strategies that are not yet widely available—helping advance medical knowledge while also opening doors to new options for patients. Just as importantly, participants are supported by experienced medical staff who prioritize education, transparency, and personalized attention throughout the process.

This balance—between innovation and accessibility, research and real-world impact—is what makes the partnership between WMED and Del Sol so promising. It reflects a shared commitment to not only economic development, but also community well-being.

The Health Fair may have been the first step, but it signals something larger: a growing collaboration focused on bringing better health resources, greater awareness, advancing medical science, and bringing new opportunities to our region—one connection at a time.
